If you want to connect your Android device to your Mac computer to transfer files between them, then please note, as of yet, macOS doesn’t allow you to connect your Android device to the Mac to move, copy, create, delete, open, or work with files. You will need to use an App or a cloud service to do this. This article will talk about different methods to transfer files between Mac and Android devices.

Method #1: Using Cloud Storage (Dropbox or Google Drive)

One of the easiest ways for transferring files between a Mac and an Android device would be by using cloud storage services like Dropbox or Google Drive. It works with both very easily. An additional benefit is that when you work on your file from either of your devices, within no time the updated file is synced with the cloud storage and you can access the updated file on another device.

Whether you use Dropbox or Google Drive, install the app on both devices i.e on Android as well as on your Mac computer, the applications are Free to install and use. Cloud storage comes with a set space limit, and to extend the storage limit for the cloud storage account, you would need to pay a subscription fee.

Dropbox free account gives you 2GB of free cloud storage space.

Google Drive offers more space, i.e. it provides 15GB of free space.

Method #2: Using Android File Transfer App by Google (Free)

Another easy solution is to install the Android File Transfer application on your Mac computer. It is a free application made by Google. This allows you to connect your Android phone with your Mac and browse its files with its file explorer on your Mac.

Step 1: From the official Android website link download the Android File Transfer application file on your Mac.

Step 2: Install Android File Transfer App on your Mac.

Step 3: Open the Application and connect your Android phone to your Mac.

You can now browse through your files and move them around as per your requirement.

Method #3: Using OpenMTP App (Free)

Similar to the Android File Transfer App, there is one more application, i.e. the OpenMTP App. It is available free to download and install for Mac. Compared to Google’s Android File Transfer App, this application has a better user interface and more features.

Step 1: Download the OpenMTP App file to your Mac.

Step 2: Install OpenMTP App on your Mac.

Step 3: Open the Application and connect your Android phone to your Mac.

You can now browse through your files and move them around as per your requirement.
