Voicemail is an essential feature that enables your caller to leave a message for you in case you missed their call. In this article, I will guide you on how to set up voicemail on your iPhone, how to check your voice messages and how to record your voicemail greeting.
Ensure You have Subscribed to Proper Plan
Before starting, please make sure you have subscribed to a proper plan that supports Visual Voicemail on iPhone, cross verify it once. Normally if you purchase the phone from the carrier itself, it is already set. But when you are taking your phone to a new carrier, then make sure you have got the right plan which supports this.
Set Up Voicemail on iPhone
As you have made sure your iPhone’s Visual Voicemail service is subscribed, now let’s proceed to set up the voicemail, follow the instructions below:
Step 1: From your Home screen, open the Phone application. At the bottom-right side of your screen, you will see the Voicemail button, tap on it to open it.
Step 2: You will see a screen with instructions about setting up Visual Voicemail, and a ‘Set Up Now‘ button, click on it to start setting up your Voicemail.
Important: If on this screen you see a ‘Call Voicemail‘ button instead of a ‘Set Up Now‘ button, then you will need to contact your carrier and make sure if the correct plan subscription is active.
Step 3: You will be asked for a password for voicemail service. If you ever want to access your voicemail messages from another phone, you will need this password to access it.
Step 4: Select greeting for your callers when they reach your voicemail. You can either select the Default one to use the standard greeting or else, you can record a Custom greeting. When creating a custom greeting:
- Tap on the Record button to record your greeting
- Tap Stop when done recording
- Tap on Play to listen to your recorded greeting
- If you are ok with it, tap Save, else you can re-record a new greeting
- Tap on Record to record a new greeting and delete the previous one
- When done, tap Save.
So now, once your setup is done, your voicemail messages will get automatically downloaded to your phone and you can access them from the Phone app -> Voicemail
Listening to Visual Voicemail Messages
To listen to your received voicemail messages, all you have to do is go to the Phone app, then tap on the Voicemail button at the bottom-right of your screen. On this screen you will see all your received voicemail messages, new messages are marked with a blue dot. Here you can:
- Listen to the voicemail messages.
- Make a call to the person.
- Share the voicemail
- See contact details
- and, Delete the voicemail message
